A friend once asked me how many new years resolutions i have written and i said lightly “one for each year since i was 16”. Then she went on to ask “how many have you accomplished”. For the life of me, i really can’t tell you what my response was but your guess is as right as mine. We have all at one year or the other written out our new year goals with so much positivity and forgotten all about them along the line.

Here is how i was able to beat down the lackadaisical attitude i had towards fulfilling these goals :Monthly resolutions!. The human life is filled with so much activities that we tend to forget promises we made over a long period of time unless we stumble upon them again. But i doubt 31 days is so long a time that we will forget the resolutions made within a month!

Here are the steps i took towards accomplishing my monthly goals:

  1. Map out themes for every month: you can set a reminder on your phone at the beginning of every month or make use of sticky notes and tag them to your calendar as a reminder. A reminder every month helps you to stay on track and brings back that excitement and eagerness you get when writing a nee year’s resolution
  2. Write out your plans: it’s one thing to have an idea but it could become futile without proper planning. Ask yourself, What steps are you willing to take towards the accomplishment of that plan that month? How are you going to go about it? Trust me, you will always find a way.
  3. Count your costs: A good planning always comes with some costs. These costs might not be in monetary terms but actions, sacrifices and hurdles to jump. And if it involves money, how do you get it? Remember all these should be done within a month!
  4. Achievements: when a man goes up a hill and starts to become weary, he should look back at how far he has come and the strength to move on will be restored to him. Always look back at how far you have come, what you have achieved. This won’t only help you to know if your plans have been working but it will give you the strength to do more.
  5. Never limit yourself: while mapping out your plans, some doubts might creep in and you might want to rule out some options. Never limit yourself if that plan is going to be the way out! Face it head on and you will give yourself a pat when you eventually achieve that plan. It will help you to aim higher. Remember, there is nothing you can’t do if you set your mind to it!
