Tobi Amusan, a Nigerian, made history on Sunday. The 25-year-old athlete won gold in the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships, giving Nigeria its first gold medal in this event.

She broke the world record in her semifinal heat with a time of 12.12 seconds, and she even beat it in the final. Unfortunately, this time of 12.06 seconds did not go down in history because the wind speed exceeded the legal limit..

In the final, she recovered from a slightly slower start to finish 0.17 seconds ahead of silver medalist Britany Anderson of Jamaica.

“The goal was to come out and win this gold,” Amusan explained.

“I am confident in my abilities, but I did not expect to set a world record at these championships.” You know, the goal is always to simply execute well and win. As a result, the world record is a bonus.”
