Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet with senior United States leadership in the coming days as Washington intensifies efforts to push forward a negotiated end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. The meeting is seen as a key diplomatic moment as pressure grows to find a political path forward after years of conflict.
The talks are expected to take place in the United States, where Zelenskyy will meet with President Donald Trump and senior officials to discuss the direction of peace efforts. According to sources familiar with the discussions, the focus will be on security guarantees, economic cooperation, and unresolved territorial issues. Zelenskyy has described the proposed framework as close to completion but stressed that critical concerns still need to be addressed before any agreement can be finalised.
Ukrainian officials have emphasised that any deal must protect the country’s sovereignty and avoid legitimising territorial losses resulting from the war. While Kyiv has shown some openness to creative diplomatic solutions, it continues to reject any settlement that would formally recognise Russian control over occupied regions.
The renewed diplomatic push comes as the United States increases its involvement in shaping a possible settlement, following months of backchannel talks and consultations with international partners. A revised proposal is believed to be under discussion, building on earlier drafts aimed at balancing Ukraine’s security needs with broader regional stability.
Russia, however, has shown little willingness to soften its position. Moscow continues to insist on maintaining control over contested territories and has signalled that it is prepared to continue military operations if negotiations fail. This stance remains one of the central obstacles to achieving a breakthrough.
European leaders are also watching developments closely, with many arguing that any lasting agreement must involve strong European participation and long term security guarantees for Ukraine. As diplomatic efforts intensify, expectations remain cautious, with observers noting that while momentum is building, reaching a durable peace will require sustained negotiation and political compromise from all sides.
